Canoe Trip This is a picture of a canoe trip on the Current River in Southern Missouri July 2004. The Current River is a part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways , which was established by an act of Congress in 1964. We had 22 family members and friends on a 2 day float trip that was a lot of fun. We had great weather, no one go hurt, plenty of action and adventures. We swam, had a big camp fire and enjoyed being away from the modern trappings of life. The trip was 16 miles of easy going canoeing, plenty of time to stop to swim, explore or share snacks with another canoe. The water flow is good and there are not that many 'dangerous' places. You can walk in the river in about 80% of the total trip, so you can always jump out if you feel the need. Every family brought a tent, we shared a common kitchen and camp fire. The kids enjoyed burning sticks, trying to roast marshmellows and cooking hot dogs on a stick. It worked out well for all. If this looks like fun a good resource is the place we rented our canoes; Akers Ferry. They make it easy to show up and rent a canoe and have fun.
